We cut out the damage, hang a patch that sits in the same plane as the rest of the wall, tape it, and finish it. Texture matching is honest work: knockdown and orange peel we can usually get close. Heavy swirl or plaster from an older house may not match from a can, and we will tell you that before we start.
If a stain is still wet, the repair will fail. We’ll look for the leak first. A roof leak or a supply line in the wall is a different trade.
